Demand for both contractor and permanent change managers is at an all-time high. The huge number of digital transformation and change projects taking place in organisations of all sizes and industries have driven demand for both contractor and permanent roles.

This means it is a great time for you to think about your next career steps in an exciting, and potentially lucrative, profession.

Salaries for technology change managers will depend on location, industry and experience. Change manager salaries tend to start at around €85,000 per annum, increasing up to €105,000 if you are working in Dublin, and depending on experience. Remuneration can exceed €115,000 as a head of change, or similarly senior role.

An experienced change manager contractor can typically expect around €650 per day, with this figure steeply rising as a head of change.

For today’s change managers, Agile practitioner certifications are increasingly the most sought-after and useful qualification. Other useful certifications include SAFe Practitioner certification, Six Sigma certification, PMP certification, ITIL certification and any relevant university degrees.

Long seen as the industry standard, taking a PRINCE2 course is still a well-recognised qualification. For a qualification that is more infrastructure aligned, ITIL uses a systematic approach that incorporates best practice.

Change managers must have strong organisation and dexterous project management skills. However, it is also important to possess the specific know-how to design, lead and embed digital transformation at all levels.

The ability to influence a varying audience is also crucial, so strong communication skills, and the ability to effectively exchange knowledge, are high priorities.
