Your exactly salary will depend much on your employer and location, but as a design engineer you can typically expect to earn €32,000-€62,000, depending on experience. A BIM technician, meanwhile, will typically be paid €32,000-€50,000, whilst quantity surveyors can see salaries as high as €82,000. A partner or director at a building services firm could be paid €100,000 or more. 

A range of professionals are needed to engineer and maintain the services that allow a building to do what its designed to. Design engineers are needed, to design cost-effective and efficient systems, and also quantity surveyors, to estimate and control costs for projects. Other members of the team include BIM technicians, who use technology to turn designs into an accurate 3-D based representation of a building project, as well as CAD technicians, project managers and estimators.  

This depends. Many design engineering positions do require degrees in subjects such as mechanical engineering, civil engineering or product engineering, but there are also courses and diplomas which may help you get a trainee technician position in building services engineering. 

To work as a quantity surveyor, you will typically need a degree in quantity surveying from the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland
