Structural Lead role with leading Civil & Structural Engineering consultancy based in Cork

Hays has been retained to recruit a Structural Lead for a client of ours, a leading Civil and Structural Engineering consultancy based in Cork.


Your new role

This role is an exciting opportunity for a highly experienced Structural Engineer to head up the client's Structural team. In this role, you will be responsible for the technical and commercial oversight of the structures division within the company.

Responsibilities include:

  • Responsible for the operational and commercial performance of the team, and reporting on same to Director/MD level.
  • Lead and manage a team of structural engineers and technicians, providing technical guidance, mentoring and professional development.
  • Oversee the design deliverables, ensuring ongoing high-quality standards are maintained.
  • Managing the interaction between project team members, clients, stakeholders and external sub-consultants.
  • Managing the team resources, delegating activities and monitoring project budgets.
  • Interaction with the Project Leads in other sectors or disciplines within the company, to ensure works are delivered as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Recruitment for a growing team.
  • Client Relationship Management.
  • Business development including tender and bid management.


What you'll need to succeed

  • Relevant third level degree in engineering (Level 8 or higher).
  • Chartered Engineer status, or equivalent.
  • At least 15 years’ experience in structural engineering, with a strong technical background.
  • Strong commercial awareness.
  • Must be able to work well under pressure and have a proven track record of meeting deliverable deadlines to client satisfaction.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Have an ability to lead, manage and coach a growing team.
  • Possess excellent professional/technical knowledge and skills.
