Senior Systems Administrator (Virtualisation) | Perm | 2 days onsite per week | Salary DOE | Dublin city

Are you passionate about building resilient infrastructure, solving complex technical challenges, and shaping the future of technology platforms? Join an engineering-focused organisation where your ideas matter, your expertise is valued, and your work has a direct impact on educators, learners, and researchers nationwide.

We’re looking for a Senior Systems Administrator to join one of our key clients, to play a key role in designing, operating and improving our mission-critical virtualisation platforms and systems. If you thrive in an environment that rewards curiosity, collaboration, and continuous learning, this is the opportunity for you.

As a Senior Systems Administrator, you’ll be a technical leader within the Systems team, helping to drive the deployment, reliability, and evolution of core platforms and services.

Your work will span:

Core Infrastructure:

  • Managing and enhancing virtual and physical infrastructure across the datacentres.
  • Leading VMware and NSX deployment, optimisation, and improvements.
  • Implementing automation to ensure our environments are scalable, efficient and secure.
Internal Services
  • Supporting the systems behind the scenes: monitoring, logging, load balancing, database clusters, authentication, and storage.
  • Enhancing tools and services used by other internal teams.
External Services
  • Helping deliver large-scale services such as identity and access management, Wi-Fi roaming, high-capacity file transfers and rich media streaming.
  • Ensuring these services are performant, secure, and built on modern, reliable infrastructure.
  • You’ll also guide colleagues, influence architectural decisions, document systems, participate in on-call rotations, and help maintain high-quality operational standards.

Essential Experience

  • Proven experience building and maintaining VMware ecosystems (including stretched clusters and NSX).
  • Strong understanding of network protocols and infrastructure, especially BGP and VXLAN.
  • Deep Linux systems administration expertise (HA, LAMP, scripting, configuration).
  • Solid knowledge of firewalls, routing, and load balancers.
  • Comfortable with automation and configuration management tools.
  • Collaborative team mindset and a desire to share knowledge.
  • Willingness to join the on-call rotation (with additional compensation).

Bonus Skills (Nice to Have):

  • Kubernetes or Rancher experience.
  • Percona/MySQL database administration.
  • Cloud platform experience (Azure, AWS).

Please note: You must have either an EEA EU passport, stamp 4 or stamp 1G visa to be considered for this role. What to do now? If you are interested, send your updated CV to me via email – Alice.barry@hays.com - and we can set up a call to discuss!
