Here in Hays Recruitment, our hospital client in Cork is hiring a Senior Risk & Quality manager.
The core purpose of this role involves actively fostering a culture of continuous quality improvement. This is achieved through leadership and management of quality improvement processes within the organisation, with a particular emphasis on risk management. The Manager will collaborate closely with all staff to encourage engagement in Quality & Risk Programmes, always keeping the service user at the heart of quality enhancement efforts.
As the Snr Quality & Risk Manager, you will be accountable for upholding the highest standards in the development and execution of the hospice's quality management and risk programme. These efforts will align with the mission and principles of the organisation.

Your new role

  • Develop and shape the Quality & Risk Management Programs.
  • Identify areas of clinical risk by developing, overseeing, and reviewing departmental risk registers.
  • Ensure risks are mitigated in so far as possible by liaising with relevant stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Lead the formulation of policies, protocols, and guidelines as needed to bolster the risk and quality management program.
  • Act as the Nominated Complaints Officer if the same is delegated by the line manager.
  • Alongside clinical staff, they examine clinical complaints from a clinical risk management perspective and enable changes to avert future occurrences, creating opportunities for quality enhancement.
  • Engage with pertinent line managers to craft policies, protocols, and standards that are in line with best practice HSE standards.
  • Champion quality and best practices in clinical matters.
  • Establish connections with hospice legal advisors, the State Claims Agency, professional bodies, and the HPRA as needed.
  • Maintain a proficient understanding of Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) Standards applicable to the role. This includes standards for healthcare, the National Standards for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infections, Hygiene Standards, etc. Comply with associated HSE protocols for implementing and sustaining these standards in alignment with your role.

What you'll need to succeed

  • An academic award in Healthcare Risk Management or Healthcare Quality Management at level 8 (or higher) on the Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) or equivalent OR a professional qualification in a health-related area.OR Demonstrated expertise in a comparable position and open to additional training if necessary.
  • A background in the Clinical/Healthcare setting in a post that has involved quality and risk management as relevant to this role.
  • Minimum of 5 years' proven experience in Quality/Risk
  • Experience of leading change in a complex organisation.
  • A proven track record in driving Continuous Improvement programs.
  • Strong verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organisational and project management skills.
  • Able to work equally well as part of a team or independently.
  • A strong working knowledge of quality standards such as CHKS, ISO, HIQA, and quality systems.
  • Significant track record of achievement working in the public health sector.
  • Demonstrated depth and breadth of experience working with multiple internal and external stakeholders as relevant to the role.
  • Working knowledge of Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) standards as they apply to the role (e.g., Standards for Healthcare, National Standards for the Prevention and Control of Healthcare Associated Infections, Hygiene Standards) and compliance with relevant HSE protocols.
  • Commitment to maintaining the primacy of the patient in all hospital activities
  • Master’s degree in quality and safety.
  • Experience of leading or participating in an organisation-wide accreditation or other quality standard system.
