Your new role

As the Section Manager, Strategic Operations & Scientific Affairs, you will lead a dynamic team responsible for delivering high-level scientific and strategic advice to government departments and international agencies. You’ll oversee the planning and coordination of critical scientific projects, ensuring the delivery of strategic objectives and the continuous development of your team.
You will be pivotal in managing cross-functional service delivery, engaging with stakeholders, and coordinating the scientific input for major policy initiatives, ensuring that the work produced is of the highest standard and in line with regulatory requirements.

Key responsibilities include:
  • Leading the strategic direction for your section, driving the delivery of high-quality scientific outputs
  • Managing the development and implementation of annual work plans
  • Overseeing key scientific engagements with government departments, international stakeholders, and other strategic partners
  • Coordinating and supporting your team to deliver timely and relevant advice
  • Representing your section at national and international meetings
  • Developing strong relationships across the organisation and with external partners

What you'll need to succeed

To succeed in this role, you will have a strong academic background, preferably with a degree in a relevant scientific field, along with at least five years of experience in a leadership or managerial capacity. You will have a proven track record of leading teams, managing scientific projects, and delivering strategic objectives under pressure. Additional essential skills include:
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong organisational and project management abilities, with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to make informed decisions quickly
  • Extensive experience working with government departments, international agencies, or similar stakeholders
  • Demonstrable experience in resource assessment, scientific advisory services, or related fields
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and other office software tools
  • A solutions-focused, results-oriented approach
