Your new role
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a critical role in designing, developing, and maintaining complex data pipelines and platforms, primarily utilising Snowflake and other modern tools such as Azure and Airflow. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Data Architects, Business Analysts, and Data Stewards, to ensure data solutions meet business requirements and maintain high standards of data quality, security, and performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Integrate data from diverse on-premises and cloud sources, ensuring seamless ingestion, transformation, and consolidation to build a reliable and unified data foundation for analytics and reporting.
- Develop robust data transformation routines to clean, normalise, and aggregate data, addressing complex data structures and inconsistencies.
- Implement data de-identification and masking techniques in accordance with company data privacy standards.
- Monitor and troubleshoot data pipelines and systems to promptly detect and resolve any issues.
- Automate error handling and develop monitoring tools to maintain data integrity and system reliability.
- Utilise data quality frameworks such as Great Expectations or Soda to validate data accuracy throughout its lifecycle.
- Design and maintain data pipelines using Airflow and Snowflake, including developing complex SQL-stored procedures for transformations.
- Create logical and physical data models that uphold data integrity and optimise performance.
- Develop and automate CI/CD pipelines using Git and Git Actions for seamless deployment and version control.
- Tune and optimise data processes to enhance efficiency and scalability.
- Identify resource or technology gaps and collaborate with the data engineering team to implement effective solutions.
What you'll need to succeed
- Proven hands-on experience as a Data Engineer, with strong expertise in SQL, including window functions and advanced querying techniques.
- Proficiency in Python programming.
- Deep understanding of Snowflake architecture, features, and best practices.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation using Git and Git Actions.
- Strong knowledge of data modelling techniques such as Star Schema, Dimensional Models, and Data Vault.
- Practical experience building ETL/ELT pipelines and working with both relational and non-relational databases.
- Familiarity with complementary programming languages and platforms such as Scala, Java, and Linux environments.
- Good understanding of data security concepts, including access control, data masking, and row access policies.
- Exposure to DevOps practices and agile/scrum methodologies.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
- Experience working in high-performing teams on complex data projects.
