Project Director (Civils) – Operational Delivery of Rail Projects.
The Company
A long-established UK-based provider of infrastructure and engineering services, specialising in transport, defence, and public sector projects. It combines operational expertise with data-driven solutions to maintain roads, railways, and facilities. They focus on sustainability, innovation, and improving public services through smart infrastructure management. They have recently set up operations in Dublin and have requirements for a Project Director for the operational delivery of rail projects in Ireland.
Main Purpose
- To act as a project management specialist and subject-matter expert, providing direction, guidance and supervision as appropriate to project management and operational delivery teams, operational managers, clients and suppliers.
- To direct the actions of the team on contract, including the multidisciplinary environment and to undertake the people manager role when required by the business.
Core Responsibilities
Strategy
- Work with the Business Director, Account Director and managers and to develop and manage annual business objectives, plans and budgets for allocated contract; actively seek opportunities for growth outside the existing budget.
Finance / Operations:
- Own the P&L and implement the business plan for the assigned contract.
- Work with Business Director, Account Director and managers to develop and manage annual business objectives, plans and budgets for the contract; actively seek opportunities for growth outside the existing budget.
- Manage performance, with regular site visits and performance review against targets.
- Ensure and improve the delivery of service excellence across the contract by maximising efficiency and effectiveness, actively sharing best practice across contracts and seeking opportunities for profit improvement.
- Ensure the contract is a robust reference sites for future bids.
- Manage the supply chain to deliver service excellence and contract profitability.
- Be accountable for a health and safety culture, which ensures safe processes, procedures and behaviours, as well as continuous improvement through best practice activities.
- Supports and contributes to continuous improvement.
Customer / Market:
- Responsible for specific client relationship(s), with regular reviews of contract performance, and active management of issues
- Support and implement a culture of customer centricity.
People / Organisation:
- Lead and manage a team to deliver the contract(s) agenda
- Support and reflect the safety culture within the business
- Ensures a culture of compliance
Contract Specific Responsibilities
- Lead on bidding – focussed primarily on the rail market in Ireland.
- Full management of post-contract D&B contracts under NEC4, multidiscipline track and civils delivery required.
- Programme Leadership & Delivery – encompassing design, construction, testing, and commissioning of track works, drainage, civil structures, and systems integration.
- Systems Integration & Interface Management – Act as the primary integrator across multiple workstreams—track, signalling, telecoms, electrification, and civils — ensuring seamless coordination.
Safety Specific Responsibilities
- Promotion of and adherence to the company safety culture
- Work in a professional and proactive manner, including developing the safety culture with the contract teams and supply chain.
- Ensure that all accidents and incidents are fully investigated.
- Participate in regular monthly safety meetings with the leadership team.
- Responsible for complying with the alcohol and drugs policy.
- Responsible for wearing and maintaining in good condition any Personal Protective Equipment provided to them for their protection.
- Responsible for ensuring their own safety and the safety of others affected by their acts and omissions.

Personal Requirements
Qualifications
- Degree qualified desirable in a relevant discipline
- Chartered in relevant discipline (Engineering or Project Management)
Skills
- Able to take and be accountable for decisions within and across contracts, reflecting the level as appropriate
- Customer Relationship Management
- IT and Data analysis skills
- Ability to understand, implement and challenge commercial contracts
Experience Requirements
- Demonstrates the ability to implement and meet targets across multiple contracts.
- Has a clear understanding of industry and market
- Has proven ability to manage, develop and motivate multiple teams
- Demonstrates well-developed communication, relationship management and influencing skills
- Experience of managing a significant customer, or multiple smaller customers
- Managed a large P&L
- Developed and successfully delivered against business plans
- Experience of managing contract performance
- Contributed to management of a bid or mobilisation
- Managed a business improvement or change management project
- Experience of managing health and safety
- Rail civils experience on a large infrastructure project
