Multidisciplinary Design Director - Ireland, with a Global Consultancy

Our client is a leading international engineering and infrastructure consultancy delivering some of the most complex and high-profile projects across the built environment, transportation, energy and infrastructure sectors. Due to continued growth and a strong project pipeline, an opportunity has arisen for an experienced Technical Director to lead multidisciplinary design teams across major programmes of work.


Your new role

As Technical Director, you will provide leadership across the full design lifecycle, overseeing the delivery of complex projects from concept through to detailed design and construction support. You will act as a key client-facing leader, ensuring successful coordination across civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical and specialist engineering disciplines.

You will play a central role in driving technical excellence, project delivery, strategic growth and business development activities while supporting the continued evolution of digital design, BIM and emerging technologies.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Leading multidisciplinary design teams on major projects and frameworks
  • Managing programme, budget, resource and quality objectives throughout project delivery
  • Acting as the primary design interface for clients, contractors, stakeholders and project teams
  • Driving design integration across multiple technical disciplines
  • Leading technical reviews, value engineering exercises and risk management activities
  • Overseeing the preparation and review of technical reports, specifications and design documentation
  • Supporting bid development, client presentations and strategic pursuits
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships across key sectors
  • Mentoring and developing engineering and design professionals
  • Championing digital delivery, BIM and innovative project solutions
  • Supporting business growth and contributing to the wider leadership team

What you'll need to succeed

  • Degree qualification in Engineering, Architecture or a related discipline
  • Chartered Engineer, Chartered Architect or equivalent professional accreditation
  • Significant experience leading multidisciplinary design teams within a consultancy environment
  • Proven track record delivering complex infrastructure, engineering or built environment projects
  • Strong client-facing, stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Experience managing project programmes, budgets and technical deliverables
  • Commercial awareness with experience supporting business development and work-winning activities
  • Knowledge of BIM processes and digital project delivery methodologies
  • Ability to lead and motivate geographically diverse teams
