Your New Role
The Maintenance Technician plays a key role in ensuring that all production equipment and plant machinery operate safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime. This role involves a mix of preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and hands‑on mechanical and electrical repair work. Working closely with production teams, the Maintenance Technician supports daily operational targets, ensures compliance with safety and quality standards, and contributes to continuous improvement across the site.

Responsibilities
  • Carry out preventive and routine maintenance to maximise uptime and extend equipment life cycles.
  • Execute scheduled maintenance tasks to support smooth and reliable plant operations.
  • Accurately record all maintenance activity within the system and update equipment logs.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical, mechanical, and electro‑mechanical faults.
  • Work on PLC-controlled systems, handling/packaging machinery, pneumatic and hydraulic components, and control systems.
  • Monitor production lines and react promptly to any deterioration in performance.
  • Independently assess faults and determine repair urgency.

Operational Support & Cost Control
  • Provide technical support to the Production Team to help achieve daily and weekly output targets.
  • Maintain a cost‑efficient approach to resources, tools, and spare parts.
  • Utilise manuals, technical documentation, and service contracts to aid in efficient breakdown recovery.

Equipment & Compliance Management
  • Work with external equipment suppliers on installations, upgrades, and modifications.
  • Maintain workshops, tools, and work areas in an organised and operational state.
  • Ensure required spare parts are ordered before the end of each shift.
  • Adhere to stores procedures and report equipment damage promptly.

Training & Team Collaboration
  • Mentor and guide apprentices as part of their training and development.
  • Engage in cross-skilling and continuous learning to broaden technical capabilities.
  • Escalate critical issues to the Maintenance Manager according to policy. Health, Safety & Compliance
  • Follow all Food Safety and Health & Safety regulations, including PPE requirements.
  • Ensure correct environmental handling and disposal of oils, greases, batteries, and other hazards.
  • Supervise contractors on site and ensure compliance with all policies and procedures.
  • Additional Responsibilities
  • Carry out any other maintenance duties as required to meet operational needs.

Knowledge & Technical Skills
  • Strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and electronic systems within industrial environments.
  • Experience with PLC-controlled systems, including troubleshooting and basic programming.
  • Knowledge of pneumatics, hydraulics, automation, and high‑speed machinery.
  • Ability to read and interpret schematics, drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Strong diagnostic and problem‑solving skills.
  • Familiarity with preventive and predictive maintenance practices.
  • Knowledge of Health & Safety legislation, including LOTO procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of CMMS for work orders and spare parts management.
  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Education & Certifications
  • Technical diploma or degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Recognising a mechanical/electrical apprenticeship is an advantage.
  • PLC troubleshooting or programming certification desirable.
  • Safety certifications (Manual Handling, Working at Heights, Electrical Safety, etc.).
  • Additional training in food manufacturing, GMP, or ISO standards is beneficial.

What You Will Need to Succeed
  • 3–5 years’ industrial or manufacturing maintenance experience.
  • Background in high‑speed production, conveyors, packaging, or automation.
  • Proven electro-mechanical troubleshooting and repair capability.
  • Experience within regulated sectors (food, pharma, automotive) advantageous.
  • Exposure to improvement methodologies such as Lean or TPM preferred.
  • Full-time availability and willingness to participate in on‑call rota.
  • Team-focused with strong communication skills.
  • Highly motivated, flexible, and dependable.
