Your new company
As Instructional Designer, you will join a leading Irish semi-state utility company who are responsible for the delivery and maintenance of utilities across Ireland to establish a consistent, standards-driven approach to technical learning design. Your new office is conveniently located in Dublin City and offers a hybrid work model; 2 days in the office, 3 days at home. Your new company requires you to join their team on an 11-month assignment.
Your new role
As Instructional Designer, you will partner closely with the Technical Learning & Skills Manager (TL&S), who provides technical expertise, and work with SME working groups to gather content and define learning objectives. You will focus on creating structured, engaging training materials and embedding best practices across the Technical Learning & Skills team, while aligning with the Digital Learning team to ensure consistency and reusability across delivery formats.
Your duties will include but are not limited to:
- Partner with TL&S Manager and SMEs to scope training needs, agree objectives, and translate technical content into learner-friendly courses.
- Design and develop classroom-based and virtual instructor-led training that is interactive, engaging, and aligned with organisational standards.
- Create complete training packs, including:
- Trainer guides
- Participant guides
- Slide decks and supporting materials
- Establish and embed design standards and templates for TL&S programmes.
- Implement a feedback loop for trainers to provide input for continuous improvement.
- Align closely with the Digital Learning team to ensure consistency in frameworks, templates, and evaluation methods, enabling blended learning and content reuse.
- Maintain documentation and version control for all training materials.
What you'll need to succeed
You will have proven experience in instructional design for classrooms and virtual instructor-led training, along with a strong understanding of adult learning principles and instructional design methodologies. The ability to create structured training materials (trainer guides, participant guides, slides) as well as experience establishing design standards and governance for training content is essential. Excellent organisational, project management and interpersonal skills are required.
