Electrical Design Engineer - Building Services - Kilkenny Office – 50k to 70k DOE

Your New Company
They are a successful multidisciplinary building services engineering practice with headquarters in Kilkenny and a client base spanning Ireland, the UK, Europe, and the Middle East. Their award-winning team has completed more than 6,500 commissions, developing extensive in‑house expertise demonstrated across numerous projects.
As they enter a significant growth phase across several business areas, they are looking for professional and enthusiastic Engineers to help meet the increasing demand for their services. They are currently seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to join their team and contribute to a range of exciting projects across multiple sectors.

Your New Role
  • Design of Electrical Services installations for buildings typical in the Educational, Healthcare, Residential, Commercial & Retail Sectors, including but not limited to electrical distribution, small power, containment, control systems, Internal lighting, External lighting, emergency lighting, MV & LV electrical design, Emergency Lighting Systems, Fire alarm Systems, IT Infrastructure, CCTV & Intruder alarms to current regulations and design standards.
  • Demonstrate a strong technical ability in all aspects of Electrical / Building Services Engineering & Design.
  • Create detailed electrical design layouts, schematics, and calculations, ensuring compliance with industry standards and project goals.
  • Independently address design and technical challenges within projects to achieve the best engineering solutions.
  • Work directly with clients and project engineers to define project requirements and develop & Design technical solutions.
  • Develop and agree design processes and design deliverables.
  • Produce accurate budget estimates for projects, assess contractor's progress, claims & variations.
  • Maintain project documentation in accordance with ISO standards, ensuring up-to-date records for electrical designs.
  • Engage in QA audits, peer reviews and technical workshops, promoting continuous improvement in electrical solutions.
  • Conduct site inspections and prepare reports related to electrical systems, sourcing budget information and providing data to project teams.
  • Review electrical service submittals, ensuring compliance with project objectives and approved designs.
  • Monitor project timelines to ensure electrical designs are delivered on schedule and within budget. Remain aware of project and construction schedules, ensuring electrical designs are delivered on time and within budget.
  • Lead projects from a design perspective, including, answering Technical Queries, design development, service coordination, review of technical submittals, manage & coordinating timely delivery of Design changes, drawing updates, etc. during the project.
  • Ability to lead and mentor Junior and Intermediate engineers where relevant, depending on experience.
  • Assist with tender bids, including writing technical report, and preparing budget estimates.

What you need to succeed
  • Minimum Level 7 Degree / Diploma in Electrical Engineering/Building Services Engineering or equivalent.
  • Ideally 5+ years’ experience in design with an engineering consultancy.
  • Ability to lead & deliver projects in accordance with Building Regulations and Design Standards.
  • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams, contributing to the overall success of projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in a client-facing role.
  • Proven knowledge of electrical system designs, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarms, security and protective systems in accordance with Irish Regulations.
  • Experience working within ISO standards and project specific scopes.
  • Proficient and competent in design software such as Dialux/Relux, Amtech, AutoCAD, BIM/Revit, or similar platforms.
  • Proficient knowledge and experience of current Design Guides, Building Regulations (including BCAR process) EN Standards.
  • Full Clean European Driving Licence (or in the process of getting a Full European Driving Licence)
