Director of Partnerships and External Affairs

Your new company

You will be joining a nationally significant public‑sector organisation responsible for delivering major strategic, educational, communications and partnership programmes across Ireland. The organisation works closely with government departments, public agencies, political stakeholders, community groups, industry partners and international bodies to drive impactful national initiatives.
Due to a period of leave, the organisation is seeking an exceptional senior leader to take on the position of Director of Partnerships & External Affairs on a fixed-term basis. This is a critical leadership role within the executive team.

Your new role

As Director of Partnerships & External Affairs, you will report directly to the Chief Executive and lead a wide-ranging portfolio that includes external relations, communications, public affairs, campaigns, stakeholder engagement and strategic partnership development.
You will identify and develop meaningful partnerships at national and EU levels, oversee marketing, communications and public relations activity, and drive innovation in education, engagement and outreach programmes. You will lead high‑profile communications delivery, crisis and emergency communications planning, and the development of sustainable community and sectoral partnerships.
As a member of the Executive Leadership Team, you will play a key role in shaping strategic direction, leading change initiatives, overseeing directorate budgets, developing annual work programmes and managing high-performing professional teams. You will also support initiatives to generate new income and funding streams.
An immediate appointment is required due to the strategic importance of this role.

What you'll need to succeed

You will bring:

  • A Bachelor’s degree (Level 8) or equivalent experience.
  • Significant experience leading organisational communications, campaigns or media relations.
  • Proven experience managing and expanding strategic partnerships.
  • Senior management experience shaping organisational strategy.
  • Strong project management capability in high‑stakes environments.
  • Experience working with government and political stakeholders, including EU-level engagement.
  • Strategic, analytical and business development skills.
  • A record of achievement demonstrating leadership, innovation and delivery at senior level.
  • Knowledge of Irish public administration and inter‑agency working.
Desirable experience includes:
  • Professional qualifications in Communications or related areas.
  • Fundraising or strategic initiative experience in public, non‑profit or similar organisations.
  • Business development or strategic sales experience.
  • Knowledge of sustainable transport, safety, education or related public‑policy agendas.
  • Experience securing governmental or non-governmental funding.
You will also have exceptional communication and influencing skills, strong relationship-building capability, and the ability to operate effectively under pressure, including during sensitive or high‑profile events. Travel within Ireland and internationally will be required.
