Your new company

Your new company are a leading organisation within the utilities industry. They are committed to growth, innovation and sustainability continues to be top of their agenda. They are currently seeking a Category Specialist to join their team on a contract basis to support their Design Delivery function.

Your new role

In this role, you will be supporting the Design Delivery Team and working closely with engineering teams. You will report to a senior team member and play a key part in reducing processing workload while coordinating procurement activities for materials and engineering services.
Your responsibilities will include completing templates with technical or pricing information to support procurement processes and coordinating supplier clarifications, ensuring responses are tracked and recorded appropriately. You will liaise with supply chain teams, engineers, and internal departments to manage procurement documentation and maintain accurate records on SharePoint. You will also develop and manage forward planning schedules for material needs and facilitate meetings to identify long-lead items for procurement.
The role involves drafting supplier award and regret letters, raising procurement requests using Oracle, and supporting the preparation of governance papers and single-source requests. You will conduct spend analysis, coordinate contract expenditure increases, and gather specifications for tender quotations. You will also support the development of sub-EAC and EAC papers, facilitate technical meetings, and translate technical information into draft documents. Maintaining trackers and dashboards, ensuring procurement competitions align with governance limits, and conducting product research are also key aspects of the role. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

What you'll need to succeed

To succeed in this role, you should have a minimum of five years’ experience in a similar position, ideally within the utilities sector. You must be comfortable using Oracle and have experience processing purchase orders. Strong coordination and organisational skills are essential, along with the ability to work independently and as part of a team. Familiarity with SharePoint and procurement systems is beneficial, as is experience with tender documentation and governance processes. You should be proficient in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint, and possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills. A technical understanding or relevant qualifications would be advantageous.
