Construction Planner - Leading Contractor – Dublin-based

Your New Company

Join a Tier‑1 main contractor with a reputation for delivering large, technically complex builds across Ireland. You’ll be part of a tight‑knit planning function embedded within multidisciplinary project teams, where programme certainty, rigorous analysis, and high‑quality client reporting are central to how projects are won and delivered. The planning team is small, experienced, and collaborative—offering you autonomy, peer support, and the chance to influence project outcomes from pre‑tender through handover.

Your New Role

As a Construction Planner, you will own the schedule development and control strategy across one or more major projects—from pre‑tender and tender submissions to detailed contract programmes and live progress management.
Key responsibilities:
  • Bid & preconstruction planning: Prepare critical path programmes, project execution plans, flow charts, and labour histograms to support compelling tender submissions and method statements.
  • Baseline set‑up & controls: Develop comprehensive contract programmes and detailed project schedules aligned to scope, phasing, access/enablement, logistics and procurement strategies; integrate subcontractor schedules into the master programme.
  • Progress measurement & reporting: Produce regular progress reports and analysis, maintain look‑ahead plans and site target programmes, and communicate variances, mitigation options, and recovery sequences to project leadership.
  • Subcontractor coordination: Review and advise on subcontractor programmes, ensuring logic integrity, resourcing realism, and seamless incorporation into the principal construction programme.
  • Systems enablement & training: Provide training and technical support for planning software and related digital tools to site teams, fostering consistent use of programme controls.
  • Advanced planning practices (desirable): Utilize industry‑standard platforms such as Primavera P6 for CPM scheduling and explore 4D/5D integration with BIM workflows to enhance visual sequencing, clash awareness, and cost/schedule linkage (e.g., P6 with Navisworks).
What You’ll Need to Succeed

  • Qualifications: An appropriate professional qualification—ideally in engineering or a construction discipline.
  • Experience: 5+ years’ relevant construction planning experience within a main contracting or large specialist environment, covering the full lifecycle from tender to delivery.
  • Technical capability: Excellent IT systems knowledge with proven experience in programming software (e.g., Primavera P6 or equivalent), including resource loading, progress updates, baseline change control, and reporting dashboards.
  • Methodology & analysis: Strong understanding of CPM logic, critical path validation, float analysis, and risk/mitigation planning—able to convert complex site realities into executable programmes.
  • Collaboration: Confident working independently and within multidisciplinary teams, with the ability to coach site personnel and liaise effectively with supply chain partners.
What You’ll Get in Return

  • Competitive package: Attractive basic salary, car allowance, pension, professional subscriptions, and additional benefits.
  • Project exposure: The opportunity to gain excellent experience on large, technically challenging projects—strengthening your portfolio and accelerating your progression in planning leadership.
  • Tools & training: Access to industry‑leading scheduling and project controls platforms (e.g., Primavera P6, BIM‑enabled workflows) with training support to deepen your capability.
  • Supportive team: Work within a small team of highly experienced planners that values accuracy, transparency, and proactive problem‑solving.
What You Need to Do Now

If you’re ready to lead programme strategy on high‑profile builds and drive schedule certainty from tender through delivery, apply now. Please submit your CV and a brief cover letter outlining relevant planning experience, your software proficiency (e.g., P6), and examples of programme recovery or optimisation you’ve led. Shortlisted candidates will be contacted to discuss upcoming projects and next steps.
