Your new company

A public sector organisation is seeking an experienced Climate and Sustainability Lead to support the delivery of its climate action and sustainability objectives. Working within a collaborative environment, you will play a key role in ensuring compliance with climate-related legislation, driving sustainability initiatives, and supporting the organisation's long-term environmental goals. This is a hybrid role offering flexibility between remote working and office attendance.

Your new role

As Climate and Sustainability Lead, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and monitoring climate and sustainability programmes across the organisation. You will work closely with senior stakeholders to ensure compliance with relevant legislation and reporting requirements while identifying opportunities to improve environmental performance.
Key responsibilities will include:
  • Reviewing, developing and driving the organisation's Climate Action Plan.
  • Supporting the completion of annual energy and sustainability reporting requirements.
  • Delivering staff engagement, training and awareness initiatives relating to climate action and sustainability.
  • Assessing buildings, facilities and vehicle fleets to identify opportunities for improved sustainability performance.
  • Supporting and participating in sustainability and energy-focused working groups.
  • Preparing reports and updates for senior leadership teams.
  • Tracking and reporting on sustainability outcomes, including cost savings, energy efficiencies and emissions reductions.
  • Identifying and implementing additional climate and sustainability initiatives as required.
This is an initial 12-month contract with the potential for extension.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Experience planning and implementing climate and sustainability programmes within large and complex organisations.
  • A Level 7 qualification (or equivalent) in Climate, Sustainability, Environmental Management or a related discipline, or significant relevant professional experience.
  • Strong knowledge of climate action frameworks, sustainability initiatives, and environmental reporting requirements.
  • Excellent project management, planning and organisational skills.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • The ability to manage multiple priorities and achieve results within deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels.
  • A proactive, positive and collaborative approach to work.

What you'll get in return

In return, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on a significant sustainability agenda within a public sector environment. You will work on high-profile climate initiatives, engage with senior decision-makers, and contribute directly to environmental improvements and long-term sustainability objectives. The role also offers a flexible hybrid working model and the potential for contract extension.
