Your New Role
As a Design (Civil) Engineer, you will work as part of a multidisciplinary team, contributing to the design and delivery of site development works. You will liaise with clients, review and prepare technical documentation, and ensure compliance with relevant standards and regulations. Your responsibilities will include:
- Completing designs and drawings for site development works.
- Designing surface water drainage systems in accordance with SuDS, including greenfield runoff calculations and sizing of soakaways and attenuation tanks.
- Designing foul sewer and water main networks in line with Irish Water Codes of Practice.
- Liaising with Irish Water through pre-connection, application, and diversion processes.
- Preparing Designers’ Risk Assessments and preliminary inspection plans.
- Undertaking BCAR inspections.
- Supporting procurement of site investigation and civil engineering contracts, including pricing schedules and Bills of Quantities.
- Assisting in the preparation of tender documents and assessments.
- Administering construction contracts to meet design, schedule, and budget goals.
- Liaising with local authorities on drainage, traffic, and flooding feasibility.
- Reviewing documents prepared by Graduate Engineers and mentoring junior staff.
What You'll Need to Succeed
- Level 8 Honours Degree in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
- 2–6 years of relevant experience in civil engineering design.
- Strong understanding of:
- Drainage design principles and SuDS.
- Irish Water Codes of Practice for water and wastewater.
- Site development standards (DMURS, Site Development Works Recommendations).
Proficiency in:
- AutoCAD 2D.
- Site modelling software (e.g., Site 3D).
- Drainage design tools (e.g., Innovyze MicroDrainage).
- Familiarity with:
- Microsoft Project, Access, and GIS tools (ArcGIS, MapInfo).
- Public procurement procedures and thresholds.
- Construction contracts (PWMF, RIAI).
- Building Regulations (Technical Guidance Documents A–M).
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
