Building Inspector – Architectural Practice

Your New Role
In your new role as Building Inspector, you will conduct thorough inspections to ensure compliance with building codes, regulations, and project specifications, identify and report any construction defects or safety issues, and recommend corrective actions. You will be expected to collaborate with project managers, architects, and contractors to ensure quality and safety standards are met.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Inspect construction works regularly to ensure compliance with approved drawings, specifications, and quality construction standards.
  • Monitor the quality of materials and methods used on site and ensure they meet project requirements.
  • Identify defects, non-compliant work, or departures from design and specification, and report these promptly.
  • Suggest appropriate corrective actions and monitor remedial work to ensure issues are resolved satisfactorily.
  • Track construction progress and prepare regular written and verbal reports for construction managers, architects, and clients.
  • Verify that works comply with building regulations, planning conditions, health and safety legislation, legal obligations, and ecological/environmental requirements.
  • Attend site meetings, inspections, and progress reviews as required.
  • Liaise closely with the design team to provide guidance, clarification, and technical input during construction.
  • Maintain accurate site records, photographs, inspection reports, and defect logs.
  • Act as the client’s representative on site while maintaining professional independence and objectivity.

What You Need to Succeed
  • Relevant construction qualification.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., CIOB, ICWCI) desirable.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in building inspection or a related field.
  • Strong knowledge of building codes, regulations, and construction practices.
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Relevant certification or qualification in building inspection/surveying or construction.
