Your new role
In this role, you will manage bookkeeping tasks on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis for a diverse portfolio of clients across various industries. You will be responsible for preparing and submitting VAT returns, performing bank reconciliations, and maintaining financial records using platforms such as Surf, Sage, QuickBooks, and Xero. The ideal candidate will take ownership of complex or high-volume client accounts and ensure the accuracy of junior staff entries. You will also play a key role in training and supporting junior team members, identifying and escalating client issues, and contributing to the development of internal systems and quality control procedures. Payroll processing is a significant part of this role, including handling high-volume payrolls using Thesaurus or BrightPay, while ensuring full compliance with Revenue regulations and deadlines. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will liaise directly with clients to gather and clarify information and collaborate with colleagues to support accurate year-end financial and payroll reporting.
What you'll need to succeed
The ideal candidate will have 2–5 years of experience in a bookkeeping and payroll role within an accountancy or payroll practice. They will demonstrate advanced Excel skills and a strong grasp of data analysis techniques. A proven ability to manage client relationships independently and meet deadlines is essential, along with a thorough understanding of payroll legislation and Revenue compliance requirements. The ideal candidate will be tech-savvy, quick to learn new systems, and possess excellent communication and time management skills. They should be flexible, reliable, and willing to take on additional responsibilities as needed, while maintaining discretion and professionalism when handling sensitive financial and payroll data.
