Associate Director - Mechanical Engineering (building services), Cork

A leading multidisciplinary engineering consultancy is seeking an experienced Associate Director – Mechanical Engineering to join its growing team. This is a senior leadership opportunity within a highly regarded organisation known for delivering innovative, sustainable building services solutions across Ireland, the UK, and international markets.

Your new role

You will take a strategic leadership position, overseeing the delivery of high-quality mechanical design across multiple projects while managing and developing a high-performing team.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading mechanical design delivery from feasibility through to construction across a diverse project portfolio
  • Acting as Project Leader, ensuring delivery aligns with client briefs, budgets, and programme timelines
  • Maintaining technical excellence and ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations
  • Managing project profitability and commercial performance
  • Mentoring and developing engineers at all levels
  • Overseeing team resourcing and workload planning
  • Collaborating with BIM teams on coordinated M&E design delivery
  • Building and maintaining strong client relationships as a senior point of contact
  • Supporting business development, bids, and strategic growth initiatives
  • Working closely with senior leadership on project delivery and operational strategy

What you'll need to succeed

  • Degree-qualified in Mechanical Engineering (Master’s desirable)
  • 6+ years’ experience in Building Services Consultancy design
  • 3+ years’ experience in team leadership or management
  • Strong technical expertise across HVAC, LTHW, water services, drainage, BMS, and fuel systems
  • Proven experience delivering projects through the full design lifecycle
  • Strong commercial awareness and project management capability
  • Knowledge of Irish and UK building regulations
  • Experience with BIM and energy modelling tools is advantageous
  • Chartered status (or working towards) highly desirable
