What you'll be working on
In your new role as a Technologist, you’ll lead and support cutting-edge research and innovation projects across emerging technologies like AI, quantum computing, semiconductors, etc. You’ll work closely with senior stakeholders to shape investment strategies, advise on R&D opportunities, and help build a future-ready workforce. Your work will also involve collaborating with research institutions, influencing strategic initiatives, and promoting sustainable, tech-driven growth. It’s a dynamic opportunity to drive innovation and make a real impact on the global technology landscape.

What you'll need to succeed
In order to succeed, you will need:
Strong technical background with a relevant Level 8 qualification (or higher) in a science or technology discipline, with deep knowledge of areas like AI and / or quantum and computing.
Proven experience in research, development, or innovation roles within industry, with a solid grasp of R&D business models and investment drivers.
Ability to assess emerging technologies and translate complex technical concepts into strategic insights that guide investment and policy decisions.

  • Strong relationship-building skills with senior leaders in industry, government, and academia, with a track record of influencing at a high level.
  • Experience leading or supporting complex RD&I projects, including proposal development and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the ability to simplify technical topics for diverse audiences and represent the organisation externally.
  • International business experience or exposure to global markets, with a willingness to travel and represent the agency abroad.
  • Understanding of sustainable technologies and a commitment to supporting digital and green transformation initiatives.
  • Comfortable working independently or as part of a diverse team, with a proactive and flexible approach to evolving priorities.
  • Strength in areas such as negotiation, client relationship management, innovation, networking, and project delivery.
