The Contracts Manager is required to oversee civil / road maintenance construction works.
Your new company
Your new company is involved in the construction and maintenance of roads across Ireland. They are involved in the provision of specialist road maintenance services across the road network. They are now seeking to recruit a Contracts Manager in Galway. You will be responsible for ensuring the planning and delivery of site operations within their remit, ensuring works are completed as per relevant specifications, safety standards, customer requirements and in accordance with the Quality and Safety systems, along with responsibility for the financial performance of the contracts.
Key Responsibilities
- To program and schedule works to maximise the efficiency of allocated resources.
- To co-ordinate the role as Project Supervisor as defined by the Safety, Health and Welfare Act.
- To ensure preparation of relevant Construction Stage Health and Safety Plans from preliminary Health and Safety Plans provided by clients.
- To carry out our regular inspections/audits on Temporary Traffic Management.
- To ensure communication by supervisors/managers of Site Inductions, Methods Statements & Safe Systems of Work (SSWP) for all visitors, employees, contractors and suppliers visiting.
- To liaise with Operations Managers / Supervisors / Managers and ensure proper record keeping for all aspects of various projects, including: quantities of materials used on a daily basis, Plant & Equipment Utilised, Labour on site, Safety audits, toolbox talks, task briefings, SSWPs, Variations to work requirements.
- To ensure the monitoring of the quality of Surface Dressing works to ensure compliance
- To ensure coordination of testing and sampling of emulsions and aggregates
- To ensure that all raw materials are ordered from approved suppliers only and identify potential suppliers.
- To ensure only Approved Contractors are appointed to perform subcontract operations.
- Planning, Forecasting and scheduling of works.
- Managing the financial performance of contracts, proactive cost management, promptly submitting invoicing / valuations.
- Timely completion of monthly accounts including WIP and Accruals.
- To be aware of all work in progress and maintain a degree of control.
- Nurture existing customer relationships and develop and grow new customer relationships.
Managerial Responsibilities:
- Direct, manage and lead contracting operations across the Republic of Ireland
- Ensure compliance with all Health & Safety (H&S), Environmental and quality standards and ensure in particular the safety of all contracting teams, operating a zero tolerance to unsafe acts and achieving a zero target for fatalities and LTIs
- Meet annual revenue and margin deliverables as agreed with the Head of Contracting.
- Grow market share in terms of revenue, tonnage and products.
- Develop internal and external capabilities to deliver road maintenance services across the Island of Ireland, including people, plant, equipment, facilities, contracting skills and external partners
- Measure performance in the areas of productivity, quality, health & safety, costs, revenue and asset management.
- Develop and implement programmes to improve production efficiency.
- Develop the capability to contribute tenders in a timely and efficient manner.
- Build/develop new market opportunities - introduce new products and methodologies to the region, adapt to the changing needs of customers
- Ensure environmental procedures, e.g.: recycling, waste minimisations are adhered to and improvements made where possible.
- Promote and foster a positive employee relations atmosphere within the organisation.
- Optimise the use of human resources by encouraging an atmosphere of involvement, open communication and effective teamwork.
Skills/Competencies
Qualifications: Level 8 degree in Civil/Constructional or equivalent degree/ industry recognised safety training to the relevant standards.
Experience: Should have up to 5 years prior leadership experience, preferably in a road surfacing or contracting environment.
Knowledge: Contracting, estimating, project management, health & safety, and out-sourcing.
Effective Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills, capable of conveying technical information clearly to various stakeholders.
Problem-Solving Ability: Analytical skills to identify and assist in resolving technical challenges effectively.
Team Collaboration: Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams, contributing to project goals without direct management responsibilities.
