Trading Manager | Permanent | Cork City | Hybrid | Salary Negotiable
Your new company
Our client, a leading retail and wholesale business with a strong heritage and a portfolio of well-known consumer brands, is seeking a Trading Manager to join its high-performing commercial team. This is a unique opportunity to shape the future of retail categories in a dynamic, customer-focused environment.
Your new role
As Trading Manager, you will be responsible for driving the commercial success of your product portfolio—leveraging consumer insights, supplier partnerships, and market trends to deliver value for both the business and its customers. You will lead the development and execution of category strategies that align with the overall business objectives. You will negotiate supplier terms and manage cost prices to ensure optimal profitability across your portfolio.
You will be responsible for setting wholesale prices and recommending retail prices, while monitoring margins to ensure both company and customer profitability targets are achieved. You will build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with suppliers and customers to support business goals and manage expectations effectively. You will oversee the sourcing and successful launch of Own Brand products in collaboration with the product development team. You will create and maintain implementation toolkits to support in-store execution. You will also lead and contribute to cross-functional projects that drive innovation and efficiency.
What you'll need to succeed
You will have at least three years of experience in a senior commercial or buying role within the retail or FMCG sector. You will demonstrate strong product knowledge and a genuine passion for food and/or non-food categories. You will be creative and innovative in identifying trends and developing consumer offers that can be rolled out across the retail estate. You will have a proven track record of delivering strong commercial results. You will hold a relevant degree or have equivalent experience in a related field.
You will possess a deep understanding of the Irish and/or UK grocery market, along with strong commercial acumen. You will be knowledgeable about current food trends and how they influence consumer behaviour. You will have excellent analytical skills, complemented by strong written and verbal communication abilities. You may also bring experience in applying category management principles, which would be considered an advantage.
What you'll get in return
You will receive permanent employment, a competitive salary and performance bonus with an Employer of Choice in Cork City.
