Social Media Manager is required by a Civil Service Body.

Your new company

You will be joining a leading civil service organisation committed to delivering impactful public‑facing communications and supporting national objectives through innovative, engaging, and responsible messaging. Working within a dynamic Partnerships and External Affairs directorate, you will play a central role in shaping the organisation’s online presence and ensuring high‑quality public engagement across multiple digital platforms. This is a hybrid position, combining time in the Ballina headquarters with remote work.

Your new role

As the Social Media Manager, you will lead the implementation of the organisation’s newly developed social media strategy, supporting the wider communications agenda and driving meaningful engagement across all digital channels.
You will plan, build, and always manage‑on content, craft campaigns that support key initiatives, monitor online community behaviour, collaborate with internal teams and external agencies, and ensure all digital activities are brand‑aligned, compliant, and insight‑driven.
This is a high‑impact strategic role where you will guide social output across multiple platforms, manage a content creator and part‑time clerical support, and shape the organisation’s digital voice and presence. You will also be required to travel between multiple units; therefore, a full, clean driving licence is essential.

What you'll need to succeed

To be successful, you will bring:
  • 1–3+ years managing social media for a brand or organisation.
  • Strong content creation ability, including writing, basic graphic design, and short‑form video production (Reels, TikToks, Shorts).
  • In‑depth understanding of major platforms (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook, X, LinkedIn) and how their algorithms influence performance.
  • Demonstrated experience implementing and executing social media strategies.
  • Experience with planning, scheduling, and workflow tools (e.g., Sprout Social, Trello).
  • Strong analytics capability, including interpreting KPIs such as reach, engagement, and conversions, and turning data into actionable insights.
  • Excellent communication, copywriting, and storytelling skills.
  • Confident community management skills, including managing conversations, responding to queries, and appropriately handling negative interactions.
  • Basic video editing skills and familiarity with creative tools.
  • Strong time‑management and organisational skills with the ability to handle multiple platforms and deadlines.
  • Problem‑solving ability and adaptability to fast‑moving digital trends.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a wider team.
  • A full, clean driver’s licence, due to travel across multiple units.
Desirable Skills
  • Experience in influencer marketing or campaign collaboration.
  • Crisis communications experience.
  • Familiarity with AI‑powered creation or analytics tools.
  • Fluency in Irish.

What you'll get in return

You will have the opportunity to shape and deliver a new social media strategy at a critical moment of organisational development. In return, you will receive:
  • A competitive hourly rate
  • Hybrid working arrangements combining remote work with on‑site collaboration.
  • The chance to lead and mentor a small creative team.
  • Exposure to high‑impact national communications campaigns.
  • Professional development in a supportive, mission‑driven environment.
  • The opportunity to directly influence public engagement and contribute to meaningful national outcomes.
