At Hays Specialist Recruitment, we are partnering with a leading global manufacturing medical device organisation who are looking to hire a Senior Manufacturing Engineer to join their Engineering Projects Team based in Cork.
This role supports a portfolio of high-impact engineering and value capture projects within a regulated, high-volume manufacturing environment, focused on driving operational efficiency, cost reduction, and process improvement across the site.
Your New Role
As a Senior Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible for leading and supporting engineering projects aligned with improving manufacturing efficiency, reducing scrap and consumables usage, and optimising direct labour performance.
You will apply project management best practices alongside lean manufacturing and engineering principles to deliver measurable improvements across manufacturing processes. The role will involve working cross-functionally with Operations, Quality, Validation, and Engineering teams to ensure successful project delivery in a GMP-regulated environment.

- Act as an End-to-End Engineering representative supporting projects across quality, savings, capacity, and validation initiatives.
- Lead project life cycle activities including scoping, design, implementation, execution, and closeout
- Identify and deliver cost-saving opportunities relating to scrap reduction, consumables usage, and labour efficiencies
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Operations, Quality, EHS, Automation, Finance, Maintenance) to align project requirements and secure funding.
- Develop project documentation including scope, design specifications, and execution plans
- Present project status updates and funding requirements to senior leadership on a regular basis
- Define process inputs and outputs and establish operational ranges prior to validation activities.
- Lead or support equipment and process validation (IQ/OQ/PQ)
- Ensure effective risk management, design controls, and issue resolution in collaboration with Quality and Validation functions
- Provide clear and timely reporting on project progress, including escalation of risks and issues
- Ensure all activities comply with GMP, ISO, and regulatory requirements
- Maintain adherence to all health, safety, and environmental standards
What You’ll Need to Succeed
- MSc in Engineering or Science
- 7+ years’ experience in a medium to high-volume manufacturing environment (e.g. Orthopaedics, Food, Oil & Gas, Paint)
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in a regulated industry (FDA/ISO)
- Strong hands-on engineering experience supporting trials, experiments, and project implementation on-site
- Proven experience delivering engineering or continuous improvement projects
Desirable Experience
- Experience working within both FDA and European regulatory environments
- Knowledge of 21 CFR Part 820, Part 11, and EU medical device regulations
- Strong understanding of GMP, ISO, and validation frameworks
- Six Sigma / Lean Manufacturing certification (Green or Black Belt preferred)
- Experience with statistical analysis tools and methodologies (MSA, SPC, DOE, Reliability)
- Strong problem-solving capability (A3, Six Sigma, or equivalent)
- Mechanical engineering or process validation expertise
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills
