Your new role
As Site Manager, you will assume responsibility for the day-to-day management of construction activities on a range of heritage, conservation, façade restoration, and refurbishment projects. You will oversee site operations from commencement through to completion, ensuring works are completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with programme, quality, and budget requirements.
You will act as the key point of contact on site, coordinating labour, subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and client representatives while maintaining the highest levels of workmanship and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Managing daily site operations and ensuring projects progress in accordance with programme requirements.
- Coordinating and supervising direct labour and subcontractors across multiple work packages.
- Ensuring all works are carried out in accordance with drawings, specifications, conservation requirements, and project standards.
- Managing refurbishment, conservation, restoration, façade repair, structural remediation, and associated construction activities.
- Monitoring project progress and proactively identifying potential delays or risks.
- Working closely with the company Contracts Manager/Director to ensure successful project delivery.
- Coordinating site logistics, access requirements, material deliveries, and resource allocation.
- Attending and leading site meetings with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and stakeholders.
- Ensuring all construction activities comply with planning requirements and conservation specifications.
- Maintaining accurate site records, labour reports, progress updates, site diaries, and quality documentation.
- Managing snagging processes and ensuring defects are addressed and closed out efficiently.
- Supporting commissioning and final handover activities.
- Maintaining excellent communication with all stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
Quality Management
- Ensuring all works achieve the highest standards of workmanship and finish.
- Monitoring quality control procedures and inspection requirements.
- Working closely with architects and conservation professionals to ensure adherence to restoration & conservation requirements.
- Identifying and resolving quality issues quickly and effectively.
- Ensuring project documentation is maintained and completed accurately.
- Driving a quality-first culture across all project activities.
Health & Safety Responsibilities
- Promoting a positive and proactive safety culture on site.
- Conducting regular site safety inspections and audits.
- Reviewing and implementing RAMS, permits, and safety procedures.
- Ensuring compliance with all relevant Health & Safety legislation.
- Managing direct labour compliance and safe systems of work.
- Identifying potential risks and implementing corrective measures.
- Maintaining high standards of housekeeping throughout the project.
Stakeholder Management
- Liaising with the Company’s Construction director, in support of planning and client communications
- Building strong relationships with clients on site representatives
- Managing communications between site teams and project leadership.
- Supporting collaborative problem-solving and decision-making across the project team.
Essential Requirements
- Proven experience as a Site Manager within the construction industry.
- Strong track record delivering refurbishment, restoration, conservation, commercial, residential, or specialist construction projects.
- Excellent understanding of construction sequencing and site management.
- Strong knowledge of quality management procedures and construction best practices.
- Experience coordinating subcontractors and multiple trades on site.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
- Strong communication and leadership skills.
- Excellent organisational and planning abilities.
- Strong understanding of Health & Safety legislation and site compliance requirements.
- Ability to manage programmes, resources, and project priorities effectively.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience managing refurbishment or restoration or conservation projects.
- Experience working on façade repairs and/or structural repair schemes.
- Knowledge of traditional construction methods and historic building techniques.
- Background working alongside conservation architects.
- Relevant construction management qualification.
- Safepass and other industry-recognised certifications.
