Construction Design Manager – Main Contractor – Dublin Based

Your new role
As Design Manager, you will take full responsibility for managing and coordinating the design process from pre‑construction through to project completion. You will act as the central interface between design consultants, client stakeholders, and internal project teams, ensuring that all design deliverables are fully coordinated, compliant, and aligned with project objectives.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing the design programme and ensuring timely delivery of all design packages in line with construction schedules.
- Coordinating architectural, structural, and MEP design teams to ensure full integration across all disciplines.
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, and technical submissions to ensure accuracy, buildability, and compliance.
- Leading design coordination meetings and workshops, ensuring clear communication between all stakeholders.
- Identifying design risks, clashes, and potential issues early in the process and driving solutions through to resolution.
- Working closely with project managers, engineers, and commercial teams to ensure alignment between design, cost, and programme.
- Managing design change processes, ensuring proper documentation, approvals, and cost control.
- Supporting procurement teams by ensuring design information is complete and suitable for tendering and subcontractor engagement.
- Ensuring compliance with building regulations, codes, standards, and client requirements.
- Overseeing design deliverables required for construction, commissioning, and handover, including as‑built documentation.
- Supporting the implementation of digital design tools, including BIM coordination and model reviews.
- Driving continuous improvement in design management processes and standards across projects.
What you’ll need to succeed
- A degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
- Proven experience as a Design Manager, Technical Manager, or similar role within the construction industry.
- Strong background in managing multidisciplinary design teams on medium to large‑scale projects.
- Excellent understanding of construction methods, sequencing, and buildability requirements.
- Strong knowledge of building regulations, technical standards, and compliance requirements.
- Experience coordinating complex design interfaces between architectural, structural and MEP elements.
- Familiarity with BIM processes and digital design coordination tools.
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to lead meetings and drive outcomes.
- Excellent organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously.
- A proactive, solutions‑focused mindset with strong problem‑solving and decision‑making capabilities.
