Your new company
Your new company is a semi- state cross-border navigational authority responsible for the management, maintenance, development and promotion of over 1000 km of inland navigable waterways, principally for recreational purposes. The waterways under its remit are the Barrow Navigation, Lower Bann Navigation, Royal Canal, Erne System, Shannon-Erne Waterway, Grand Canal and Shannon Navigation.

They are now looking for a mechanical engineer, based in Tullamore, Co. Offaly who will form part of a mechanical fleet management team within the M&E section on a 2 year contract.

Your new role
This is a key role to support the fleet & plant management duties and will involve the writing of technical specifications, liaising and identifying user requirements and assessing market suitability of fleet and plant that could be used by the company.
You will be supporting the tendering, appraisal, and award of new supply contracts and also contribute to the development of mechanical engineering systems/solutions as required.
Your main duties will include supporting the tendering, appraisal and procurement of mechanical plant, marine vessels and equipment, supporting the delivery of strategic services to ensure that all plant & equipment is in legislative compliance with the relevant statutory authority standards governing marine and land-based plant.
You will also support the computerised fleet system with data capture, and other supporting technologies to manage vehicles, uphold health and safety by achieving road risk compliance based on organisational requirements and ensure the recording of planned and reactive fleet & plant maintenance with adherence to statutory and regulatory obligations
This role will also include in assisting in the design, installation and maintenance of electric and hydraulic power and control systems primarily for the operation of navigation locks, moving bridges and sluices.

What you'll need to succeed
A degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree qualification with mechanical and electrical engineering content is required a minimum of 1 year relevant post qualification experience.

A valid driving licence is needed and access to a form of transport which will permit travel throughout Ireland.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge and experience on the maintenance of construction plant and upkeep of H&S statutory compliance obligations for on and off-road vehicles as well as knowledge and experience in the use of relevant I.T. based engineering design and circuit development tools such as AutoCAD or Solidworks.

Good interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate, good project management and problem-solving skills are essential.

What you'll get in return
A salary of €34,000 to €61,000 depending on experience.
This works out between €19 to €33 per hour, paid weekly.
35 hour working week, Monday to Friday, as well as flexitime, a company van and a pension.
