Laboratory Manager, Semi state, Water, Water Treatment.
Here in Hays Recruitment, we are currently recruiting for a Laboratory Manager to join our client, a leading Semi State organisation. This is a permanent, full time opportunity. This role is also a hybrid opportunity, reporting to the companies Limerick site.

Your new role
The Scientific Services functional area is responsible for the national provision of operational support services to include sampling and laboratory analytics, ensuring that activities are performed in accordance with regulatory obligations to protect public health and the environment.
The Laboratory sub area is responsible for providing chemical and microbiological analytical services in support of the regulatory sampling programs, operational monitoring. capital investment and customer complaint. The teams are required to work weekly shift patterns including covering ‘skeleton staff’ schedule at weekends, as required.
Reporting directly to the Scientific Services Manager, the Laboratory Manager will be responsible for the delivery of high quality accredited analytical results at a low cost to the company and will implement strategy within the business unit relating to the laboratory and on-site service provision to internal and external stakeholders. They will be responsible for all the analytical results produced by the laboratory (Microbiological and Chemistry based) and ensure that they comply with ISO 17025, INAB and EPA standards and the quality management system.
Manage the provision of laboratory services to ensure that the service provided to key internal and external stakeholders are delivered in a timely manner whilst achieving high quality accredited analytical results for value for money.
• Assist the Scientific Services Manager in the development of business strategies for the laboratory and Scientific Services as a whole by providing specialist advice in their area of expertise.
• Responsible for managing and maintaining an efficient focus on turnaround times for data and ensuring these are meeting the set KPIs to improve reaction times to incidents and events by the wider business.
• Required to make decisions on the allocation of resources (finance, people, equipment, information and data) and will be responsible for determining allocation where there are competing demands for these resources

What you'll need to succeed
Third Level qualification (Level 8 or higher) in a relevant science discipline
• significant experience, preferably in an environmental testing laboratory setting.
• Excellent knowledge of current analytical best practices and procedures within the analytical scientific field.
• Excellent knowledge of the Quality Management Systems and the requirements for maintaining INAB ISO 17025 accreditation.
• Knowledge of LEAN Six Sigma techniques for driving operational efficiencies within their laboratory unit.
• Knowledge of H&S procedures and policies including Risk Assessment.
• Proven track record of effectively managing and innovating teams in a customer focused manner through the direction, empowerment, and motivation of team members
• In-depth knowledge of Business Continuity Laboratory Command Incident procedures
• In-depth financial skills with a high level of understanding of budgetary management and monitoring
• Excellent communication skills, verbally and written.
• Proven track record in the implementation of business strategy to deliver target efficiencies.
• Profit & Loss responsibility.
