We are delighted to representing a leading Irish Utilities provider in their search for an ambitious Litigation Solicitor to join their legal team in Cork on a 1 Year Fixed Term Contract. You will be responsible for advising on a number of commercial and corporate law matters, with a focus on the management of litigation and disputes.

Your new role

  • In your new role you will be Supporting the Head of Legal in providing in-house legal advice in relation to:
  • commercial matters (both contractual and contentious); and
  • regulatory matters and corporate governance.
  • Managing and providing support on disputes and litigation/arbitration for the business, including in the construction sector.
  • Advising the business on regulatory requirements and investigations.
  • Providing day to day support to the Head of Legal and the business, in conjunction with third party specialists, to deliver required business outcomes.
  • Managing and supporting third party specialists, including external lawyers, to deliver required business outcomes.
  • Identifying areas of potential legal risk, developing reporting structures in relation to those risks and conducting reviews where required.
  • Promoting legal awareness and communicating to the business when legal input should be sought.
  • Monitoring and keeping business units advised of relevant legislative changes and case-law affecting the conduct of the company’s business.
  • Supporting the training of staff in relation to areas of relevance to the business.
  • Ensuring that continuing professional development is maintained and that professional knowledge remains current, by participating in appropriate training / courses / seminars, as agreed with the Head of Legal.
  • Other duties as required from time to time.

What you'll need to succeed

  • You will be a Qualified Solicitor with circa 6 years post qualification, including at least 3 years in the management of litigation and disputes.
  • Ability to consider a wide range of legal issues across a broad spectrum of legislation, and to provide practical recommendations to the business, taking a risk-based approach.
  • Ability to review and negotiate complex commercial contracts, advising on risks and practical mitigation measures.
  • Ability to deal confidently and professionally on day to day issues and handle complex issues with limited supervision, providing clear and concise legal advice.
  • Team oriented and collegiate with a willingness to share knowledge with and support other members of the team.
  • Solution-orientated, i.e. ability to adopt a commercial perspective rather than an 'academic' approach to legal issues.
  • Ability to set own high standards of performance and delivering desired results
