The team, work across the student lifecycle: from primary school outreach right through to providing employability support. The work is varied, far reaching, and rewarding. This team is committed to empowering students with disabilities to achieve their academic and vocational goals in an inclusive learning environment. This is a free and confidential service to all students who register with Disability Support. In the region of 1,900 students with a wide range of disabilities are registered with this service. The service supports students with physical and sensory disabilities, students with significant ongoing illnesses and students who experience mental health difficulties, in addition to students with a wide range of specific learning difficulties such as Dyslexia, Dyspraxia and students with Autism / Autistic students.
Your new role
- Manage a caseload of students, co-ordinating and monitoring support, and accommodations with academic and administrative departments, maintaining and developing appropriate referral, advocacy, and sign-posting relationships, both internally and externally.
- Provide support via one to one and group meetings with students promoting independent learning, wellbeing, and academic success.
- Support students with more complex support needs by participating in case management meetings and monitoring outcomes.
- Work with a developing Information and Support team within DS to triage students contacting DS and screening self-referrals for service.
- Keep excellent up to date electronic files on assigned student caseload.
- Deliver high quality disability needs assessments (group and individual) for students with disabilities. Produce student Learning Educational Needs Summary (LENS) reports, including appropriate recommendations for relevant support to enable successful learning and outcomes.
- Deliver high quality disability needs assessments for students who have a Work Integrated Learning module as part of their course (group and individual) for students with disabilities. Produce student Work Integrated Learning Needs (WILN) reports, including appropriate recommendations for relevant support to enable students achieve the core competencies of the module.
- Provide expert advice and support to prospective and current students with disabilities.
- Provide feedback on systems and contribute to service improvements to meet emerging complex needs.
- Monitor, evaluate and report regularly on student supports and outcomes.
- Engage with relevant bodies and organisations to support greater participation by underrepresented groups in the University, including students with disabilities.
- Prepare reports for the University as well as external funding agencies.
What you'll need to succeed
- A third-level qualification in social science, social care, social work, or other allied health profession or equivalent professional experience.
- Experience in managing a diverse and complex caseload.
- Experience of working within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Demonstrate understanding and experience of supporting the varying needs of students and experience of assessing the educational impact of a student’s disability.
- Strong awareness of the specific needs of a diverse student body and an understanding of the challenges and opportunities in increasing the participation of underrepresented groups in higher education.
- Excellent IT skills, including working knowledge of CRM – Microsoft Dynamics system.
