Your new company

We are delighted to representing a leading Irish Utilities provider in their search for an ambitious Commercial Solicitor to join their legal team in Cork on a 3 Year Fixed Term Contract.

Your new role

  • In your new role you will be supporting the Head of Legal in the provision of legal advice to the business in relation to commercial contracts and commercial and corporate law matters generally.
  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating various commercial contracts and advising in relation to the structuring of same.
  • Providing strategic advice on specific legal queries in relation to the progress of projects, including environmental law guidance.
  • Managing and supporting third party specialists, including external lawyers, to deliver required business outcomes.
  • Identifying areas of potential legal risk, developing reporting structures in relation to those risks and conducting reviews where required.
  • Promoting legal awareness and communicating to the business when legal input should be sought.
  • Monitoring and keeping business units advised of relevant legislative changes and case-law affecting the conduct of the company’s business.
  • Supporting the training of staff in relation to corporate and commercial law.
  • Providing day to day support to the Head of Legal and the business, in conjunction with third party specialists, to deliver required business outcomes.
  • Ensuring that continuing professional development is maintained and that professional knowledge remains current, by participating in appropriate training / courses / seminars, as agreed with the Head of Legal.
  • Other duties as required from time to time.

What you'll need to succeed

  • Qualified Solicitor with circa 6 years post qualification, including at least 4 years in commercial contracts and corporate law.
  • Ability to consider a wide range of legal issues across a broad spectrum of legislation, and to provide practical recommendations to the business, taking a risk-based approach.
  • Ability to review and negotiate complex commercial contracts, advising on risks and practical mitigation measures.
  • Ability to deal confidently and professionally on day to day issues and handle complex issues with limited supervision, providing clear and concise legal advice.
  • Team oriented and collegiate with a willingness to share knowledge with and support of other members of the team.
  • Solution-orientated, i.e. ability to adopt a commercial perspective rather than an 'academic' approach to legal issues.
  • Ability to set own high standards of performance and delivering desired results
