In a recent Hays survey of Professional Practice, cash flow, loss of clients and attracting new clients were cited as their biggest issues.

The SME sector for accountants in Ireland is still struggling. There is little or no recruitment with the exception of SMEs involved in the export market. Within this area, we are seeing recruitment for niche finance positions that will provide the organisation with the right skills to expand in very competitive markets both within and outside of Ireland.

What do we expect in 2011? In summary, despite the uncertainty regarding Ireland as a whole, businesses are far more optimistic about hiring.

The outlook for finance professionals is better now than at any time for the past two years and this is particularly true for those coming from the larger professional practices and the multinational and international traded services sectors.

A far higher proportion of employers anticipate adding to their numbers this year than expect to hold or reduce headcount, with some firms also restoring pay or offering
modest increases.
